The Imaginarium

I am very excited to be a new member of an invite-only Etsy Team called The Imaginarium! It's such a perfect fit for my work. Here's the team description:

Welcome to The Imaginarium...

A band of creators reveling just outside of reality... a haven for those trapped in the past, stuck between the pages of books, clinging to the stars and finding beauty in the strangest of places.

Hopefully I can get involved and be a good support to the other team members.

Behind the Scenes

I've been meaning for some time to post a behind-the-scenes sketch and concept page to illustrate the way a rough idea or concept becomes a finished piece. Some of the sketches are identical to the finished piece, and others have subtle alterations that are done in the moment as I'm wire bending or sculpting the metal clay. The alterations happen not just for aesthetic reasons or logistics, but also to fit the concept I have chosen for it. Additionally, there are often keywords and reminders hidden in there so that I can remember which of a dozen labradorite stones I intended to use, which shapes I wanted to sculpt, and so on.

I compile sketches onto one sheet right before I begin working on a new collection. It helps me to gather my thoughts and intentions for the coming update(s) and allows me to work off of one place as I'm creating.

This is one of a few pages from the Ocean/Water Myths and Litha/Midsummer collections, which were initially going to go live all at once—until I realized how huge the collections were on their own.

Lastly, I have three final pair of the Heliolatry sun earrings in my shop! When they're gone, they're gone!

Worship of the sun. These summer sunshine earrings were created out of bright gold spiral sun posts and pale champagne rutilated quartz. Buy them here!

Happy Summertime!

Midsummer Night

Long days, steeped in sunshine.
Playfulness, dressed with laughter.
Roses, au naturel.
Apple-blossoms, a la mode,
served with soft music.
Orchard-blooms, smothered in sweetness.
Zephyrs, fresh.

Happy Summer Solstice! These were spontaneous additions to my shop because I couldn't keep my hands off the gemstones. :)

Shop Notes

Over the past couple of years, Elements & Artifacts has grown in a way that I never would have expected and I am so grateful for every single inch of support I've been given along the way. Artistic expression is truly my heart and soul.

Recently, I began to ponder making some small changes to my business structure in order to keep a more steady balance among all aspects of my life. One thing that kept coming to mind is custom orders, which come and go in crazy bursts.

As such, I have decided that my custom work will only be available at certain intervals throughout the year. This will allow me to keep a more steady, manageable workflow by having a lighter production schedule during the times I am accepting custom orders, and vice versa. I am closing custom orders at this time and expect to reopen them for a certain duration in the fall.

Additionally, International orders will now be shipped within 5 business days of receipt of payment so that I can consolidate my time spent in the postal line to one weekly trip.

There is plenty of mischief underfoot as I prepare for my next jewelry collection, ponder new art prints, and plan for extra time spent with my daughter who will have many big transitions as her 3rd birthday approaches! Thank you so much for your understanding and support.

Welcome, Solstice!

The Midsummer/Litha jewelry collection is up! Bring on summer!

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

The summer solstice is nearly here! I wanted to celebrate with a fun and flirty Midsummer collection with a bevy of earrings, summer necklaces, and a reinterpretation of Litha.

Everything will be on my site tomorrow morning around 10am Pacific, but here are some sneak peeks:

And spit out the teeth.
