Goth Tropes Artwork

For the second year, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab released a set of Bat's Day exclusive perfume oil blends based on gothic subculture stereotypes. Here are the illustrations I did for this year's bottle labels:

From L to R:

Inspired by European perfumes in the 1920’s: gardenia, amber,
mandarin, orange flower, and sweet spices.

Skin musk, slick black leather and wet latex with dark myrrh,
patchouli, opoponax.

Hairspray, cigarette smoke, hair dye over wisps of olibanum, styrax,
and benzoin.

Oil-spattered brass, engine grease, and a warm splash of Victorian aftershave.

Rose-infused opium tar and leather.

Ocean Myths and Summerwings

I'm very excited to release this revisit of my Ocean and Water Myths collection, almost exactly two years later, with the addition of ornate wire wrapping, metal clay, metalwork, and a few other things that I hadn't yet learned at the original release.

The new techniques could be reason enough for a revisit of a beloved collection, but I have also always had a fierce love of both the ocean and its myths. Plus, I am a Pisces! The ocean and its legends are so timeless and expansive, chaotic yet peaceful, beautiful, mysterious, poetic, and at times sad. I hope you love the new work.

I have also added in part one of my summer collections! This intro collection is called Summerwing. It came about almost on its own as I began to notice a pattern emerging in my own work over many years. This will mark my third year running of both Papillon (butterfly) and Odonata (dragonfly) creations. Along the way, I seem to have picked up other winged creatures: fireflies, bees, fairies, moths, butterflies, and now…an otherworldly phoenix addition.

Summerwing Sneak Peek!

I will release both my Ocean Myths and Summerwing collections tomorrow! I am aiming for 10am Pacific unless I run into a snag.

Summerwing is part one of my summer collections. It includes some revisits and reinterpreted concepts, including the third year running of Psyche/Odonata, and also introduces new winged creatures such as this Cinnabar Phoenix and dragonfly.

Sneak Peek, the second!

I have finished sorting and cropping photos, the copy is written, and now it's time to begin the Etsy upload. I anticipate the update will be sometime on Wednesday.

Calunga, Mother of the Waters.

This pendant of fine silver is a miniature work of art with a combination of unique textures and hand sculpting in order to show a spiral nautilus with tentacles, nuanced sea sand, and smooth pebbles. Cabochons of plum blue-purple iolite and violet amethyst have been bezel set amongst the pebbles.

Atargatis, the mother of Assyrian queen Semiramis, was a goddess who loved a mortal shepherd and in the process killed him. Ashamed, she jumped into a lake to take the form of a fish, but the waters would not conceal her divine beauty. Thereafter, she took the form of a mermaid — human above the waist, fish below.

This one of a kind bezel pendant features a breathtaking cabochon of dark royal purple agate druzy. It holds thin bands of darker purple that radiate out from the crystalline druzy center.

The stone is set within a sterling silver cathedral bezel. The backplate of fine silver holds a low relief texture of tangled coral branches. The back of the pendant holds my artist's mark and the .999 fine silver hallmark.

I will post one more sneak peek before the new work is live! I think perhaps I'll show some of the Summerwing and early Midsummer items next...

Ocean Myths Sneak Peek!

As many know, I am in the final stages of preparation for a major jewelry update! I will roll out a series of sneak peeks to break the monotony of photo-editing and uploading the information to Etsy.

This is Dione, the water goddess of creation, which was entirely hand sculpted out of fine silver. I used paint brushes to nudge and finess the details.

This is Lorelei, the Mermaid's Hair Fork. There have been many times over the years that I have randomly offered up hair combs or hair sticks in my shop. I thought to myself…why on earth haven't I released any of these now that my main focus is wire work? And so...

Once I see how the photo-editing and uploading process is going, I will make sure to announce an estimated release day and time! There will be at least a couple more sneak peeks before then. :)

Six weeks of work into it, and I'm just about to put the finishing touches on my Ocean & Water Myths revisit! Sneak peeks are just around the corner...

Contest Winner

There were fourteen correct guesses for the contest! Each of those correct guesses was assigned a number, and chose Anna C. as the winner. Congratulations, Anna!

The correct answer is that I am revisiting my Ocean & Water Myths collection from Summer of 2009! It has been in progress for a month now and I am very excited with how it is shaping up.

Stay tuned! :)

How about a CONTEST? You have 3 hrs to submit guesses for the theme of my upcoming collection. Hint: it's a revisit. Any correct guesses will be entered into a randomized drawing for a $40 gift certificate to Elements & Artifacts. Ready, set, go!

Here are most, but not all, of my past collections.

I'll announce the winner around 1pm Pacific Time!
