Secret Admirer Contest, Revisited!

Who, being loved, is poor?  ~Oscar Wilde

Last year I had such a great response to my Secret Admirer contest that I'm doing it again!

How to Play:
Email stardust [at] aliciadabney [dot] com with "Secret Admirer Contest" as the subject line. List the name of one person whom you'd like to enter into this contest. You may not nominate yourself.

On February 1st, one lucky winner will be chosen to receive a Secret Admirer package with this pair of antique copper earwires which hold wire heart links, smooth white pearls, and gorgeous AA amethyst globes.

Should your nominee be the winner, please be prepared to supply their mailing address quickly so that I may get the package sent off in time for Valentine's Day!

Three new items are up at Elements & Artifacts! Brigid: Queen of the Undying Flame, Spirit of Imbolc, and Mistress Mardi Gras.

Constellations and the Night Sky

I have a lifelong fascination with astronomy, the stars, the night sky, and even astrology. The inspiration for this entire series, and especially these constellations pendants, goes back to the spring of 2010. On a long middle-of-the-night road trip, I saw the most amazingly clear sky. The stars were so low and bright that the Big Dipper, normally up in the sky, nearly slipped into the horizon. The stars were so tangible and brilliant that it was surreal. By morning, I had a full set of ideas for this series. All of the time between then and now has involved learning new materials and techniques in order to create what I envisioned that night.

With that, I present a few favorites from my Constellations and the Night Sky collection.

in darkness, the stars shine forever

This is also my third installment of the Venus and Cupid series, a passionate and wistful take on the Roman myths and the more modern expressions of Valentine's Day.

More at Modern Eden

The winter break is over and I've been busily working on new stock to send to Modern Eden. I'm really happy with these asymmetrical little winged pendants that I adapted from my Dewdrop Moths. I definitely plan to revisit those for my own shop. There is also a labradorite-based Luciernaga, and a golden Bee.

Here is my latest experiment in soldered bezel setting. I've been using stepped bezels, ridged bezels, and scalloped bezels (shown). It's definitely a challenge but I wouldn't have it any other way. These will continue to push their way into my work this year.

Lastly, this is a custom order that I just finished. It's a double-layer fine silver pendant which holds a Sandman quote inside: "omnia mutantur, nihil interit". The top layer has been imprinted with a stylized chrysanthemum pattern and a small skeleton key. Onyx and amethyst have been bezel set onto it.

2. The Fall by gorjuss
3. Pointelle Sleep Panties by sandmaidensleepwear
4. Sleeping Beauty Ring by essu

I also wanted to share this inspiring NY Times article, I’m Making a Living From My Hobbies.

Nordic Runes & Myths

I have just released a small collection based on Nordic Runes & Myths! I set out to do purely exploratory work with this set and it ended up opening some wonderful doors for me. Since it is also wintertime, it also served to be very meditative and relaxing work.

This is Niflheim, Thor's Hammer, Brisingamen, and an Evil Eye pendant.

The rest of the mini collection can be found in my shop. :)

Sneak Peek!

I have been busy working on photography and editing this week for a mini-collection of jewelry based on Norse Myths!

Within this collection are two hand-sculpted and carved Nordic Runes which feature a touch of metalwork and are finished with two brass eyelets. While only two runes are initially offered, they include a standing offer for custom runes or bind-runes to be created by request.

My work holds a couple of new things this year: style accents of grommets and eyelets, keum-boo, silver gilded with 22K gold, and bronze/copper gilded with silver. Additionally, I am continuing to work with soldered bezels which is really difficult yet extremely rewarding. I have other goals and tricks up my sleeve, but you all know I love to make grand reveals when I'm good and ready with them. ;)

Here are two sneak peeks from Norse Myths which will go up either later today or sometime tomorrow.

I've always held that no matter how good your photography is, it can be better. It's a never-ending quest, but I was really pleased with how these turned out so I thought I would share.

This is Jupiter, a setting which holds the very first moon focal pendant I obtained from Beadles. I wear the necklace often and it is the reason that all other moon focal settings that I have created after this one have been named after Jupiter's satellites.
