Impending Halloween Collection

I've had many requests for a preview of my Halloween collection, which is going to hit my site later this week along with an announcement for the Elements & Artifacts two-year anniversary. It's a fun celebration and like nothing I've done before; there will be two big giveaways, a free item in each order, shipping upgrades, and the like. Details will come with the announcement when the collection goes live!

Below I have previewed my sculpted Pumpkin Guts pendants, Catacombs, The Ossuary, Erzulie Freda, and Creeper Peepers! The collection is 110 items, so this is only a taste of what is to come. :)

Then and Now

I am constantly striving to improve my work in any way I can. I have taken a big focus on photography lately. It's also been a year since the first hint of wire techniques came into my creations.

Eni posted a Then and Now challenge today that got me thinking about the way I always try to evolve my work, improve, and try new things. Since I revisited my branch necklace this year, I have the perfect example!

THEN: Autumn's Branch, August 2009

NOW: Halloween Branch, Upcoming in Halloween 2010

No matter what, I will always say that I still have more work to do. I have a list a mile long of new techniques and materials to try, advanced wire techniques to learn, and photography tips to employ. I'm very happy with where I've come from, and I'm very hopeful about where I might go.

My Halloween collection will be coming with a special announcement and an Elements & Artifacts anniversary celebration! This year's collection is dark, creepy, and filled with moon magic. I'm so excited to be able to share it, especially with the added excitement surrounding the anniversary.

Two years, yo! It sounds short when you look at the fact that I've been selling on Etsy for almost five years, but I spent late 2007 and most of 2008 planning and concepting for the official switch over to Elements & Artifacts after simply selling as 'stardust'.

Also, was I crazy? I unveiled Elements & Artifacts and its more conceptual work just two weeks after my daughter was born.

There will be sneak peeks coming up, as time allows. :)

On Photography

I have a long background with photography, ranging from an open curiosity while my grandpa developed photos in a bathtub, to the nitty-gritty of fumbling around in a pitch black room while trying to get a perfect spiral wrap on a roll of film so that it would develop properly.

I opened my Etsy account almost five years ago, mostly to sell off a few things that were leftover from jewelry parties and gifts that friends and family asked me to make. My online selling was very casual back then. Even so, I knew that no matter what, photography is key when the buyer can't be there in person to see the item. Photography is the one thing that I'm always trying to improve, and the one thing that will never, ever be perfect. :)

On that note, I recently read a new photography book that gave me a new understanding of lighting and a couple of new setups that I plan to try in the near future. I'm also in the market for a new camera before the end of the year, especially since my current camera keeps doing a death fart every time I use the flash. Luckily, I don't use the flash for my Elements & Artifacts photography, but I do feel it might be on its last legs!

Pumpkins Preview

Wee! These upcoming pumpkin earrings build upon the pumpkin pendants and earrings I offered last year. I was delighted with the little green vines I added up near the stem in last year's pumpkins, but I'm thrilled with this year's version since the "vines" are incorporated into the earwires and pendant stations.

I have a pile of pumpkin plans; some are completed, some are in the works. I love pumpkins. I wish every day were Pumpkin Day. Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins. :D

Autumn 2010 is here!

The Elements & Artifacts Autumn 2010 collection is up!

Autumn is absolutely my most favorite time of year. I love the colors and smells. I love the sound of dry leaves scraping across the ground when the wind chases them. I love seeing a mass of leaves floating and swirling on the air as they leave their tree. I love burning apple and spice candles inside while the night folds in around us during the dark time of year.

Much of my work accentuates the ebb and flow of the year as one season gives way to the next. Within that are numerous tokens of our history and culture as well as the beliefs born of legends and myths. Those expressions are in this collection; some new, some revisited or reinterpreted with new techniques and materials.

Spirit of Autumn

Fallen Oak Leaves

Blazing Autumn

It was this time last year that I was secretly working on wire wrapping in order to unveil it for Yule. Just as I was unveiling it, I stumbled upon a metal clay project that made my heart beat faster. This Autumn collection holds the "official" debut of my metal clay work, which is something I spent all year preparing for. It came a little early with a surprise kiln; my initial plan was to unveil it (sneak attack style!) with my Yule 2010 collection, much like I did with wire wrapping in my Yule 2009 collection.

So, here it is! It's a small start, but a start nonetheless. I'm saving some of my more elaborate ideas for when I have mastered a few techniques, and that definitely includes bezel settings, rings, and other secret things! And don't worry; wire wrapping and hand-forged metalwork will not be going anywhere. It's here to stay. :)

The rest of the collection (88 items!) is at Elements & Artifacts!

**STAY TUNED! There's a super spooky Halloween collection in the works with a slew of pumpkins, both new and reinterpreted from last year. There's also an AMAZING surprise coming with that collection. :)
