Elements & Artifacts goes Down the Rabbit Hole to benefit Autism Research

I've always felt an affinity for Alice in Wonderland, for more than the similarity of our names and my bright blond hair that I had as a child. This Alice in Wonderland collection was slated for Autumn of this year, but I decided to move it up when I made the connection between Alice in Wonderland and "down the rabbit hole", a term often used in therapies to describe the state of Autistic children. There are many wonderful therapies designed to help pull a child out of the rabbit hole, but at this point in time there is still a great need for understanding and research into the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Autism.

Autism Research Institute
The Autism Research Institute (ARI) is the hub of a worldwide network of parents and professionals concerned with autism. ARI was founded in 1967 to conduct and foster scientific research designed to improve the methods of diagnosing, treating, and preventing autism. ARI also disseminates research findings to parents and others worldwide seeking help. The ARI data bank, the world's largest, contains over 40,000 detailed case histories of autistic children from over 60 countries. ARI publishes the Autism Research Review International, a quarterly newsletter covering biomedical and educational advances in autism research.

Elements & Artifacts will donate 50% of every sale from the Alice in Wonderland collection to the Autism Research Institute. A grand tally and receipt will be posted here once the funds are gathered and the donation is made!

All fourteen Alice in Wonderland items are on sale now at Elements & Artifacts!

This whimsical firefly pendant design was painstakingly sketched and prototyped until it was, to me, perfect. It is dedicated to my beautiful daughter, whose face lights up with wonder and magic every time she hears The Firefly Song. The wing design of this pendant is inspired in part by Cynthia of Green Girl Studios, whose pewter pendants have been a long-time standby in my own work, and by Sesame Street Episode 4165 which features The Firefly Song and has brought countless moments of joy to my daughter and, in turn, to me. This is but a commemoration of that magic.

Wire armatures, oxidized and hand-polished, have been set with a faceted lemonade citrine nugget, with accents of tanzanite, labradorite, and Swarovski crystal. A hint of iridescent celadon green shimmers on the membranous tissue wings.

(Please note that while diamond glaze is tough stuff, I do not recommend getting your firefly wet!)

Necklace measures 18" and is accented with AAA swirled step-cut prasiolite and tanzanite. Sterling silver wire and findings.

Elements and Artifacts Donation Receipt

Thank you to each and every one of you who purchased from Elements & Artifacts in the past week. Between my personal donation made from this week's sales, the additional five sales marked for 100% donation, and another kind individual who sent in $20, I was able to give $258 to Doctors Without Borders. That amount will be gift matched!

As promised, a screencap of the donation receipt!

Elements and Artifacts and Haiti

Just a few quick things while they're on my mind:

1. Thank you to every single one of you who purchased from Elements & Artifacts in the past couple of days. I had previously thought I could not do anything big (beyond some pocket change) for Haiti because of what I am putting into my upcoming charity collection.

However, because of the rush of orders I received this week, I am going to be able to skim off the top of the proceeds to make a personal donation to Doctors Without Borders.

2. I just found out that my husband's employer is going to match our donation.

3. Sales number 614-618 at Elements & Artifacts will go 100% to Doctors Without Borders, supply costs and all. It is okay if you prefer to make the donation yourself and send me the receipt, but keep in mind that if I do it, the donation will be matched. Please don't feel that your recent purchase is at all diminished by this final push for donation funds; I truly couldn't be making hardly any donation if not for the sales this week.

4. I will post a screencap of the donation receipt once I have the funds gathered.

Love, Wine, Cupid & Venus...oh, and Cupcakes!

I rolled out a new jewelry update tonight with eighty new items in it. I revisited the myth of Cupid and Venus with new designs, I stepped further into wire-wrapping, created my first original wire-wrap pendants and earrings, made some of my own earwires, and giggled over the cupcakes.

Wire and Hammer

I've just stepped into making some of my own ear-wires for my earrings. I'm still experimenting, but here's "Bacchus":

Naughty and Nice

I recently posted about the Naughty and Nice Inquisition art that I did for Black Phoenix Trading Post, but here is an actual photo of the label artwork on the perfumes! I'm really happy with how they turned out. Parchment and ink is one of my favorite combinations.

Jupiter's Moons

This pendant is named Jupiter which I made for myself to keep. Each other OOAK pendant in this series will be named after a moon of Jupiter. Callisto has come and gone, but Amalthea, Andrastea, and Metis will be for sale at Elements & Artifacts soon!
